Composting And Donating Surplus Food

We are the Green Team of High Point Academy.  We are promoting...the use of composting in the local community and donating surplus food to the hungry.

What is Composting?

Composting is organic matter that has been decomposed to make fertilizer or soil amendment(a product which is added to soil to improve the soil’s physical qualities, especially its ability to provide nutrition for plants). All you really need to compost is some soil and organic material. However this method is not so effective considering the space that it takes up and lack of control of some dangerous pathogens.
There are more modern ways of composting like including special bins with cultured soil (soil with food eating microorganisms in it) or even using special worms, take earthworms for example, the food is then turned into a mixture of decomposing waste.

How do I donate food?

You can donate food to some homeless shelters, The Salvation Army is one that accepts it. You can contact Salvation Army at 626-795-0274. Food Donation Connection can be contacted at 856-771-1243. Their email is fdc@foodtodonate.com
